Johnny is your skipper and guide. He has been living and spearing full time around Rarotonga since 2008 and is able to offer a unique experience and local knowledge to visiting divers.

 

On the boat, Johnny will make sure your plan for the trip will take into account where fish are being caught, weather and experience.

 

Maiata will get you between spots quickly so you don't spend most of your charter commuting at 8 knots. All the FADs are logged in his GPS as well as some hotspots on the drop offs around the island incase the FADs are quiet or the weather is too rough for offshore adventures.

 

He will ensure you get into the water with your gear primed easily and out again safely, as a diver, he knows what works on top while hell is breakling lose below! Johnny is also a Surf lifesaver, Medical First Responder and a Qualified Fire Fighter.

 

Maiata is a 6.5m (21ft) aluminium boat built on Aitutaki by the famous local boat builder Tango Herman.
A solid 6mm hull with a self draining deck, powered by a Suzuki 175hp outboard and with 100L of fuel, Maiata has both power and range.

 

Like all Tahititian Poti Marara style boats, it has a fine entry to cut through waves with less deadrise at the back for stability at rest.

The forward situated cockpit leaves ample space at the back for a large 450L bin, ensuring there's plenty of room for giant fish.

 

All safety equiptment is kept up to a very high standard, EPIRB, VHF, fire extinghisher, lifejackets and basic first aid. GPS and accurate local marks help get you to the FADs and hotspots with no fuss.

The duckboards either side at the back make getting in and out of the water fast, easy and comfortable. There's plenty of space for guns, floats and bungees onboard.
